Power supply stalled, Mumbai halted, trains and traffic signal also closed
This is the first time that such an incident of lightning has taken place in Mumbai. Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) said in a tweet, ‘Due to some disturbance in TATA’s power supply, the electricity supply in the city has been disrupted. Sorry for the inconvenience.’
Mumbai: A sudden power cut problem has arisen in the country’s financial capital Mumbai on Monday. There is no electricity in a large part of Mumbai. According to the city’s Electricity Supply Board, “electricity has been disrupted due to some problem in TATA’s power supply”. The operation of trains has also come to a standstill due to the power cut. Due to the halt in train operations, many passengers are facing issues and are on a standstill as other ways of communication is also disrupted due to COVID.
The electricity failure has resulted in the stopping of traffic signals in many areas. This has resulted in traffic jams and the traffic police have to do manual signalling. This is somewhat a challenge on the road as due to pause in local train service, the traffic on road has increased twice.
Western Railway has said that this happened due to a grid fault in Tata Power. They also mentioned that the local train services will resume as early as possible. They are in talks with the power companies and restoration process is at the full scale. The railways are trying to resume the mainline services at the earliest.
Many suburban trains have stopped on the Central and Western lines due to power loss. Central Railway tweeted and said, ‘Suburban trains of Mumbai on CR have stopped due to grid failure. We will update soon. Please be patient. At the same time, the tweet from the Western Line’s Twitter handle said, ‘Traction power has been disrupted due to a grid failure at Tata Power Company at 10.5 am, after which the facility of trains between Churchgate to Borivali has been closed. Services will resume once the traction power is restored. Travellers are being urged for cooperation. There is news of starting the Harbor Line soon.
This is the first time that such an incident of electricity failure has taken place in Mumbai. Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) said in a tweet, ‘Due to some disturbance in TATA’s power supply, the electricity supply in the city has been disrupted. Sorry for the inconvenience.’ However, the Bombay Stock Exchange is functioning.
The sudden power failure in Mumbai has affected the lives of many. In today’s era where we have become dependent on machines and electricity being the most important source of energy for the same, even a minute of power failure affects our lifecycle. The dependency of humans on electricity is increasing day by day. We are surrounded by multiple gadgets and machines which runs on electricity or petrol or some other source. This dependency of ours makes us understand the value of electricity when it is not available for some time. We must make sure that we shouldn’t miss using electricity.
If we look at the future perspective where we need electricity for all the needs, then we must also understand that electricity being the future of the globe needs to be used judicially. We have to make sure that when there is no need for certain gadgets we must put them off and make sure to save electricity. If we start saving the energy for 1 bulb from every house for an hour or two then a city like Mumbai can save approximate energy to lighten 2 to 3 small villages of India for at least a month with one-day saving.
This is the time when we need to understand and take the proper action on the same. If we are not saving the energy and use the electricity with no proper care and waste it, then it is not only the waste of money but also the energy wastage for the country is done. Wastage of electricity means a loss for everyone. In the era, where every part of energy should be used properly to get the best results, it has become more important for us to use the resources we have in the best possible way otherwise the results can be adverse.
Just try to imagine your life without electricity for a week, no power, no mobiles, no internet, no TV, no communication. We will be a left out person in the country. Today, we live in a virtual world where every communication is dependent on our virtual meets. With this understanding I urge every citizen to act responsibly and work towards the progress of the country by saving energy and helping each other. This will help in building a strong nation for us and help us in making more progress. Electricity has made a very important place in our lives and is required now and then. Use it wisely, be future-ready and be a contributor to the growth of the nation with our efforts.
